Cooler air and the crispness of Fall brings out the best in Trout fishing. Both sections both around Cotter to Bull Shoals have been fishing well for both Rainbow Trout and resident Brown Trout. Browns certainly become more hungry as the weather changes and becomes cooler. As the weather changes, Brown Trout become more aggressive and focus on the winter spawning cycle.

Fly Fishing: Best Fly Fishing Techniques for the White River Trout have been free style nymphing along the bottom. Ticking near the bottom has been key for the larger Trout on the White River. Scud patterns in smaller sizes, (#16 & #18) have been producing fish. Micro egg patterns and small beads have been working well. Trout spawn all throughout the winter months on this tail water fishery so egg flies are a must! Natural colors have been producing the best right now. During power generation, a little brighter colored egg flies are working well. Small nymphs like Pheasant tails, Wooley Buggers, Hare’s Ears and Scuds all work well during the Winter months. When the water levels are up, the streamer game here is strong! Big streamers stripped along the banks really produce some quality fish including a few trophies.

Spinning Gear: Crank baits and shrimp have been our “Go to” baits of choice. Power Bait has been working well for Rainbow Trout. White jigs fished near the bottom also fish well. Live Shiner minnows usually work well all winter long and draw some larger trout. Casting crank baits also produces many nice fish. Weather has been a bit warm for the Shad kills. Shad kills occur most often in later January and February when water temperatures are the coldest. Shad Kills or crank bait fishing calls in the big boys! Right after the spawn in December, these brown trout are hungry and ready to feed again.

Fall is one of our absolutely favorite times of the year for Trout fishing. Good numbers of fish with not too many folks on the water. We do our best to keep our White River Trout Fishing Reports up to date and accurate.

Flows have been up and down this time of year. Power generation has usually only been going hard for several hours, then lower significantly, offering some great wading opportunities.

Here’s today’s The Best River Fishing Report:

It sure felt great today to get on the water. Fly Fishing was our name, nymphing was our game! We put in at the Woods launch below Bull Shoals Dam on the White River this morning. Fly rods in hand, we were excited to fish for Rainbow trout today.

Jim wanted to keep a few for dinner so we spent a few hours boon doggling indicators for a bit. immediately we hooked several nice rainbows on scud patterns. Scud patterns and small size 18 Frenchie nymphs worked well this morning. (Frenchie is basically a pheasant tail nymph with a florescent thorax, shell pink, orange, etc.) It’s a great fly when the water is a bit off color. We also hit a few nice brown trout on eggs patterns. Brown Trout usually spawn on the Norfork, and the White during the winter months. apparently there’s still a handful spawning on the shoals. Peach egg patterns took a couple nice fish.

James with a gorgeous Brown Trout from today. White River Shad Kill was going strong. Streamer Fly Fishing was good. Big Streamers on sink tip fly lines were getting down to the larger trout. Shad die off usually produces larger fish.

Bob landed a nice brown trout on a shad streamer. (Ice Man Minnow) There was a decent shad kill over the past few days. I think the big fish are keyed up on shad patterns . I think the streamer fly fishing should remain excellent over the next few days for sure. Heavier sink tip lines help big flies get down to the fish.

Jim and Bob ended our afternoon with several nice fish to the net and a limit of quality Rainbow Trout.

I think fishing will remain good, especially with the Shad die off on the White River.

We spent the last couple of days fishing below the Bull Shoals Dam catch and release area. This section opens on February 1st each year, right after the brown trout spawn. We landed many fish on smaller, white streamers, and nymphing small glo bugs (Natural egg patterns)

Another, do not miss for this time of year, (Winter) is the shad kills that frequently happen this time of the year. Shad die offs occur when we have a severe cold snap, shad become lethargic and get sucked through the turbines at the dam. Injured shad offer a smorgasbord for big trout. Crippled prey offer a feast for these fish, and often times, is the key to unlocking a trophy!!

Big streamers tied in white, pearl, yellow, and brown offer good shad variations, don’t ask me why but, big trout just pound yellow / brown streamers for some reason. Small shad patterns like the Ice Man Minnow, or smaller white woolly buggers, or buck tail flies also work great. White River Trout Streamers

If you’re a bait spin fishing guy, this is an awesome time to be on the water! Casting jerk baits (Rapala, Husky Jerk, Berkley Frenzy) along the shore line can produce some bigger trout. I prefer a very strong, snap, snap, pause, seems to work best. Remember to pause your jerk bait for a little bit. Remember, it’s winter and the water temperatures is cold! These fish can be slow and sluggish with the colder water temperatures. You can’t believe how many times we big fish on the pause, it’s a major deal with jerk baits. Here’s more information about the White River Trout Fishing report for Arkansas.

White River

“There is nothing better than a spring day in the Arkansas Ozarks fishing on one of our many rivers or streams or lakes. We’re partial to trout fishing on the White River, but when the Buffalo National River reopens, get ready for some great smallie fishing on water that has been untouched by an angler’s line for over a month! Imagine that … But, turn back to trout fishing because we’ve had a pretty awesome week. Although the three dams that ultimately affect our fishing here in the north-central area of The Natural State are all busily producing power by running tons of water into the rivers because the lakes are filled with spring rain, we’re still netting exquisite trout.
“Nearer the dams, you’ll find your best catch will be casting and trolling in the center of the river, right in the middle of the current. That’s because warmer surface water from the lakes hits the rivers when the dams use spillways to increase the amount released, and we know trout like cold water. Keep to the center when spillways are in use. No surprises that the browns continue to chase mid- to large-size sculpins; rainbows will bite at fluorescent yellow or lemon-lime eggs with shrimp. These water conditions beg for big stick baits. There’s a nicely producing Olive Green X-Rap with a 3-to 5-foot swimming depth and a flashy white feather, or the number 9 or 11 gold/black Rapala Countdowns should attract a nice selection of trout. The 3/8-ounce Smithwick suspending Super Gold Rogue or the Foxy Momma 4½-inch rogue will tempt a curious brown or cut.
“So far there aren’t any social distancing rules between anglers and trout, so plan your next trip when possible and we’ll celebrate on the river.”

The water is crystal clear. The water is high and clear, and the gates at the dam are still open. The trout bite picked up, with anglers having good results. Brown trout are going after streamers. Several Rainbows were caught as well. Trout fishing has been excellent.

That during the past week they had two rain events (combined for a little less than 2 inches), cooler temperatures and heavy winds (to include wind advisories). The lake level at Bull Shoals rose 0.3 foot to rest at 22.7 feet above seasonal power pool of 659 feet msl. This is 13.3 feet below the top of flood pool. Upstream, Table Rock fell 2.1 feet to rest at 3.3 feet above seasonal power pool and 12.7 feet below the top of flood pool. Beaver Lake rose 0.1 foot to rest at 8.4 feet above seasonal power pool and 1.2 feet below the top of flood pool. The White had heavy generation no wadable water. Norfork Lake fell 0.9 foot to rest at 16.4 feet above seasonal power pool of 553.75 feet msl and 9.8 feet below the top of flood pool. The Norfork tailwater had heavy flows and no wadable water.
The Army Corps of Engineers has opened the spillway gates on Table Rock, Bull Shoals and Norfork dams in an effort to lower the water level on these lakes quicker.
The White River has fished well. The hot has been the catch-and-release section below Bull Shoals Dam. The hot flies were olive Woolly Buggers (sizes 8, 10), Y2Ks (sizes 14, 12), prince nymphs (size 14), zebra midges (black with silver wire and silver bead or red with silver wire and silver bead sizes 16, 18), pheasant tails (size 14), ruby midges (size 18), root beer midges (size 18), pink and cerise San Juan worms (size 10), and sowbugs (size 16). Double-fly nymph rigs have been very effective (John’s current favorite combination is a deep-water worm with a weighted egg suspended below it).
Norfork Lake fell 0.9 foot to rest at 16.4 feet above seasonal power pool of 553.75 feet msl and 9.8 feet below the top of flood pool.

White River Fishing Report for the past few days. The weather has been mild so far this winter. We fished the White River for the past three days and found trout fishing to be excellent! Chad landed this huge brown trout (Pictured left) on a tiny micro egg. Trout fishing has been excellent even though the generation has been low. One to two generators were running on most days. It’s down to minimum flows for the winter months. White River levels were low and clear below Bull Shoals Dam.

Fishing the lower end of the riffles seemed to be the most productive for us. Water temperatures are still relatively warm, mid 40’s so trout have been very active. Late December, January and February are primary spawning times for these fish, and have been actively spawning the past few days. These trout usually continue to spawn throughout the winter months, through February.

Our best baits lately have been Power Bait eggs hooked onto a single hook and drifted along the bottom. Eggs flies have also been working well. Smaller eggs flies have been the best although it’s hard to beat the scent from Power Bait.

Both Brown Trout and Rainbows have been hot on the spawn. During certain times of the day, we could see fish actively spawning on the gravel shoals. I personally don’t fish to trout on spawning gravel but fishing behind them has been outstanding! Tons of Rainbows behind the spawning Brown trout. Limits of nice Rainbows.

During the past several weeks, water temperatures have been perfect and trout have been focused on spawning. It’s been a little bit early for winter shad kills so we’ve been spending time fishing above and below the riffles. Spawning fish generally spawn on the lower end of the riffles. Drifting baits into the deeper pools near the shallows. Here’s a bit more information on the White River Fly Fishing in Arkansas. We love it and just love trout fishing here!

White River in Arkansas is a very popular destination for fishing activities. You can come here to fish almost throughout the year. The winter can be a bit challenging. So, make sure to check out the fishing report to find the ideal time to come here for fishing.

When it comes to White River fishing, trout and fly fishing are the most popular things. If you like a challenging fishing trip, trout is the fish for you. And, if you need the most effective technique to fish from a boat, fly fishing is the best option.

Don’t worry if you are familiar with the fly-fishing technique. Hire a fishing guide and you will quickly learn the technique.

Find out what feels like to fish for prized trout in the White River.

White River – A Popular Fishing Destination

Located in northwestern Arkansas, the White River is an international destination for trout and fly-fishing. Anglers from all around the world come here for fishing adventures.

One of the reasons for such popularity is the variety of trout found here. From rainbow trout to brown trout to brook trout, you name it. And, you can find them in different sizes. If you plan to catch a record size trout, you will have to be patient. You need to wait and make sure to check out different lodges. Don’t expect to catch the biggest trout on day one.

If you are planning a family trip to the White River, make sure to choose a guide for the trip. Guided fishing trips are more convenient and will save you a lot of hassle. White River fishing report will not only help locate the best place to fish for trout, they will also help you learn fly fishing techniques.

Trout Fishing in The White River

Trout fishing is available throughout the year in the White River. As you know, it is the best destination for finding a wide variety of trout. Thanks to the AGFC Commission, the White River is well-stocked with trout fish. In fact, every year nearly 1.5 million Rainbow trout are released in the river. Other types of trout are also released into the river, creating an abundance of fish supplies for anglers.

One of the most popular locations for trout fishing is the Bull Shoals Dam. You can choose a lodging that offers easy access to it. Or you can hire a fishing service to take you to the best fishing locations.

Fly Fishing in The White River

Fly fishing is one of the best techniques for trout fishing in the White River. It is a technique that uses a bait that floats on the surface of the water. This is done to lure the fish to come-up the water surface and catch the bait.

It differs from other techniques in the sense that in fly fishing the bait is on the surface. In general fishing technique, the bait is offered below the water to lure the fish. While it is an effective technique, you have to adjust as per the fish you are catching, location and water.

It is Perfect for a Family fishing Trip

If you are looking for the best place to fish with family, White River is one of the best locations. Here, you will find a wide range of places to fish. In fact, you can choose lodgings offering convenient access to the best fishing location.

Also, you can learn the technique of fly fishing. Hiring a fishing guide is an excellent choice for both experienced and beginner anglers. A guided fishing trip will save you time and ensure that you get the best results.

Fall is one of the best times to fish for trout. They are more comfortable during the winter and you will easily find them near the surface. During summer, trout usually feel sluggish and don’t feed as much as in the winter. As the water cools down, trout will start feeding again. White River is a great place for trout fishing and you can rely on the White River fishing report to find the best time to fish for trout.

Trout is one of the most popular fish to catch for anglers. They are smart, and sneaky which means catching them is not easy. That’s what anglers love: challenge. So, if you want to catch a trout, the fall fishing in White River is the best option.

Here are a few important things you need to remember when trout fishing in Fall in the White River.

Find Their Favorite Food

If you want to lure a trout fish then you must have the best bait. Find the insects that trout love. Its their favorite food. You may not find a wide variety of insects in the fall but that doesn’t mean you don’t have options. During the fall, you may find insects like blue-winged olive mayflies and midges. Make sure that you choose a bigger bait to lure the trout as they love larger baits.

You can also use artificial lures. It is easier to find and they are equally effective for trout fishing. If you are new to fishing then guided fishing trips may help you catch trout more easily. Always consult White River fishing report before planning your trip. They contain all the important details regarding weather and fish availability.

Go to Where Water Flow is Strong

As you know trout are more comfortable in cooler temperature. Water will still be warm during the early fall. During the warmer conditions, the oxygen level is low and trout will not be active at this time. So, you have to look for areas where the current is strong. This is where you will find the most active trout. Due to the high current speed, trout can easily find food. And you will find trout to catch.

You also have to look for water that is not too clear. Clear water makes trout shy. They look for places where they can easily hide. Make sure that you use low-visibility line to catch them. Or look for water that is a bit less clear as you are likely to find trout there.

However, if you don’t have other option than fishing in clear water, you have to use stealth tactics. Wear clothes that easily blend with the surroundings. Make sure that you slowly approach them and use cast line without startling the fish.

Also Read: 4 THINGS ONLY FISHING REPORTS CAN TELL YOU

Bigger Baits Will Fetch you Bigger Fish

If you are going fishing in the early fall, you are likely to catch brown trout easily. They start migrating in the early fall. You have to look for rocks and undercut banks to find them. They also will be looking for food, which means they are likely to be found in the feeder stream.

When it comes to catching a trout, the size of the bait matters. At this time, they are super hungry after a sluggish summer. The larger bait you use, better will be your chances of catching them. They love insects. But they love salmon fish eggs even more. Get the real eggs or artificial ones to catch the trout. They easily get attracted to colorful eggs. You can find all sorts of baits for trout. For cost-saving reasons and for better results too, many anglers like to use artificial baits.

Guided Fishing Trips

Guided fishing trips offer a wide range of benefits. If you are new to trout fishing, a fishing guide can help you catch it. Catching trout is not easy and you have to think like it. To learn this trick, you will need the help of an experienced angler/guide. Remember that best anglers aren’t always the best guides. A fishing guide is someone who can guide you through the entire process. A good guide will teach you tricks and help you learn how to fish efficiently.

Find a guided fishing service to enjoy a good fishing trip. The service is all-inclusive. This means they offer boat, fishing gears and the guided fishing trip. It is a great way to enjoy fishing trip with family.

The Bottom Line

You need the best bait, a fishing guide, White River fishing report and passion for fishing for catching a trout.
White River fishing report

Fly-casting is not simple. Like any ability worth knowing, fly-casting expertise takes a while to develop—in some years. However, according to White River fishing report, the good factor is that anglers pretty much make similar mistakes, & that means your casting faults have probably been tackled by someone beforehand.

Of all the methods casters screw up the presentation of their flies, these five stand out as the top mistakes. They are also the most common, & the fixes for them provide you the biggest outcomes once you make the required tweaks to your stroke.

1. Forcing Your Cast – The Force is Stronger with You

According to White River fishing, a few fly casters have the inclination to force the fly line where they want it to go rather than letting the putter (fly line & fly rod) do the job for them.

As your rod loads up the line, momentum accumulates & allows the line to convey your fly where it ought to go. The most crucial thing is not being excessively forceful with every false cast. You should allow your rod to innately load the line on the rod tip & provide sufficient time for your loop to develop before moving thru with the subsequent casting stage.

Moreover, this will ensure that you develop a smooth cast that doesn’t harm accuracy or brings down the line’s momentum. So, if you are planning on a fishing trip to the White River, first read the White River fishing reports thoroughly.

2. Lowering the Tip of the Rod

To flycast long ranges, it’s crucial to keep your casting line up & unobstructed during the false casts. To do this, it’s essential to keep the tip of the rod up consistently. If you drop the rod tip on your back or forward cast, the loop you have built will start to open & the momentum in your casting line will dramatically go down. Making this issue allows your line no choice other than to drop.

According to White River fishing report, to fix this issue, anticipate you are tossing every false cast up above the roof of a two-story building, which is roughly 20 feet behind you & one that is 20 feet in front of you. Generally, this will help you keep the tip of the rod up while letting you focus on casting the fishing line up & back & up & forward.

The outcome of doing this will help you maintain the momentum & your casting distance will increase as well.

3. Not Hauling Casting Line in Step with the Rod’s Load

As newbies get comfier with fly casting, they often find out that hauling lines either in one or two hauls will drastically enhance the speed of the line, making casting in the wind more enjoyable. While that’s true, this is where multiple issues might start as well.

According to White River fishing, learning how to efficiently haul the line can be a tough process. It’s crucial to understand how to do a single haul correctly before you might perfectly time a two hauled fly cast. However, the single haul is performed by first lifting the casting line off the water ahead of you. As the tip of the rod loads & become elevated, you’ll make a quick stretch of line with your hand. If you make that stretch too late or too soon, the line won’t increase the pressure of the load on the tip & the whole effort will be in vain.

If done right, you will notice a rise in line speed as the loop forms strongly behind you following the back-cast.

4. Moving the rod Forward & Backward on Different Lines

Before you opt for the White River fishing guides, know that this is very common & most individuals never notice they’re doing it unless it’s highlighted to them. The mistake is made when you move your rod in a single direction during the back cast, but you fail to maintain that similar line moving onward.

You will notice you are making this mistake if your line keeps on coming back on itself or is continuously developing a swinging motion over the end of the front loop. Concentrating on this casting mistake is real easy & correct outcomes are immediately seen every time the caster holds the same line. Accuracy & momentum are also greatly affected by this.

If you want reports on White River before planning a trip there, go for White River fishing reports.

5. Casting Square with the Body

It’s very common for most individuals to want to stand with squared shoulders when directly facing their mark. However, this is usually not the appropriate position to be in when trying to delicately & accurately deliver a fly to a fish.

Apart from squaring off your shoulders with the target, place yourself at an angle with the casting arm further away from the target. According to White River fishing report, this will compel you to cast in a gesture that crosses between your body in front of you apart from fishing off to your side.

Moreover, this angle is the same as the stance you take when shooting a shotgun or a rifle. Doing this will improve accuracy & allow you to stare down the line as your front loop advances towards the target.

Conclusion:

If you want to improve your fly-casting, these are all sorts of mistakes you should deal with. We hope this list of top mistakes & the solutions for those mistakes has helped you in some manner.

White River is one of the best places to go fishing. It has a wide range of fish species, such as tout, bass, steelhead, and more. Fishing reports are as important as it gets. Which is why, service providers also offer fishing reports. Before you set out for fishing, make sure that you go through fishing reports.

Here are the things you can know only from a fishing report:

Good Time to Come Fishing

Whether you are experienced or not, guided fishing trip can make your trip more fun. This includes knowing when to go fishing. There is a specific time for fishing if you really want to catch one. Which is why you need fishing report. The report is available on the website and you can read it to find out when is the best time for fishing.

Depending the time of the year and season, the fish behave differently. They travel for food or change of environment and other things. White River fishing report can tell you if the weather is right for fishing. Or if the fishes are available for fishing.

Guided fishing trips can help you plan the best fishing trip. The expert guides will also provide information to help you understand fishing requirements.

What Type of Fish is Available?

Fishing report will also tell you which type of fish are available. Fish availability depends on a lot of things including weather condition, food availability, water temperature and current. For instance, late spring is considered as the best time to catch a trout or steelhead. If you are looking to catch a larger fish then spring is the best time.

As the weather gets warmer, the water level decreases and your chances of catching the fish is more. Bass fishing in the summer is more fun and you will have more chances of finding them.

So, a fishing report can tell you what type of fish is now available for catching. It will help you plan your trip. You want to catch a trout late spring is the best time. Make sure to find a reliable fishing report or service provider who can help you plan your fishing trip easily.

Read More: WHITE RIVER FISHING REPORT – WINTER TROUT FISHING

Understanding Fishing Behavior

Understanding the behavior of the fish is very important. It can help you prepare and even catch the fish successfully. Food is the most important part of a fish life and it dictates the way fish behave. From planning your bait and lure to finding the fish in the river, understanding their food behavior can help you a lot.

Fish also have preference when it comes to living in water. Some like shallow water while others like to stay at the bottom. They don’t like sunlight so much and you may find them among the weed and grasses. So, this is about the weather condition that day. If it’s a bright day, you can expect the fish in the shadows of weed and grasses.

A fishing repot can tell you location of fish. Hire a fishing guide and they will take you to where the fish are. The fishing guides spend so much time on water and catching fish that they have extensive knowledge about the fish. Hiring a fishing guide will simplify a lot of things for you.

Also Read: WHITE RIVER FISHING REPORTS FOR TROUT (269) 953-4619

When Not to Go Fishing

Fishing reports also include weather reports. Weather not only impact the behavior of the fish but it will also affect your fishing trip. If its too windy, the waves will carry the food away from the fish and they will follow. But a windy condition is not an ideal time to fish. You are likely to get chilly and even have difficulty fishing. Likewise, if it’s raining, fishing will not be enjoyable at the time.

Fishing report can save you a lot of time for you. Make sure to check the information before setting out.

1-White River

Apart from the fishing opportunities, the river itself is a true beauty. It runs all through Arkansas. The dams built along the way provides the best fishing opportunities.
